Big Blue to preview multiplatform versions of new product at upcoming PC Expo

San Mateo (May 24, 1997) โ€” IBM, next month at PC Expo in New York, will preview multiplatform versions of its forthcoming VisualAge for Java that are slated to ship starting this summer.

IBM, in July, plans to ship Windows 95, Windows NT, and OS/2 versions of its Java integrated development environment and will follow later this year with an AIX version, according to Scott Hebner, IBMโ€™s vice president of marketing for development tools.

Subsequently, the company will make VisualAge for Java available on other non-IBM platforms, such as Sunโ€™s Solaris and Hewlett-Packardโ€™s HP-UX, according to Hebner.

โ€œWe are going to be covering other non-IBM platforms in addition to NT,โ€ Hebner said.

Also at PC Expo, IBM will highlight its recently announced VisualAge for E-Business and Web Runner for Java server-application frameworks, which are being developed by its Taligent Division. The Web Runner for Java frameworks, which are ports of the existing Web Runner frameworks for C++, are slated to ship by September, Hebner said.
